Department Research
The Zoology Department is actively involved in research related to faunal diversity, biodiversity assessment, ecology, environmental studies, and sustainable management of natural resources. The faculty members undertake research on scorpion biology, animal diversity documentation, habitat and microhabitat studies, impacts of urbanisation on fauna, water and soil pollution, solid waste management, vermicomposting, and environmental health issues among rural and preschool children. The Department has published research papers in reputed national and international journals, including UGC CARE, Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals. Dr. Sharad Giramkar is a recognised Ph.D. Guide in two subjects, namely Zoology and Environmental Science. At present, One Ph.D. student in Environmental Science successfully declared the Ph.D. degree in July 2025 and three Ph.D. students in Zoology and one Ph.D. student in Environmental Science are working under his guidance. Research activities also focus on biodiversity conservation, environmental awareness, and application of scientific knowledge for the benefit of society. The Department encourages student participation through field-based studies, research projects, seminars, conferences and collaborative research programmes.
