About the department

The Department of Economics was established in 1971. 

1971-72 – First Batch – Pre-Degree Arts & Commerce

1972-73 – First Batch – F.Y.B.A & F.Y.B.com

1973-74 – First Batch – S.Y.B.A (Spl.Eco) & S.Y.B. com

1974-75 – First Batch – T.Y.B.A (Spl.Eco) & T.Y.B. com

 The First Batch of B.A, B.com passed out in 1975 from the Department. Another milestone of the Department is, in the year 1991-92 the P.G Department (M.A ECONOMICS) started.

Aim and Objectives of Department

  • AIMS OF THE DEPARTMENT
  1. To establish research centre for M.Phil and Ph.D. course
  2. Collaboration with Research institutes for research work
  3. To apply for minor/major research projects for various funding agencies.
  4. To organize Certificate course in economics
  5. Reading room for Students
  6. Increase the number of reference books in the Departmental Library
  7. To organize guest lectures on Current Issues.
  8. Conduct good quality research and publish research papers

  • OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
  1. To be conversant with the financial institution of the country.
  2. To study causes of inflation, deflation and stagflation.
  3. To be aware of the impart of global economic on the Indian economy
  4. To study the export/import policies.
  5. To study the causes of recession and poverty.
  6. To bridge the gap between normative and positive/applied economics.
  7. To study the impact of demonetization on Indian economy.
  8. To study the impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Indian economy.
